Hello and welcome to Commander Bites!
Today we are going to be talking about Apothecary White!

White is a four mana 3/4 with vigilance, whenever you attack you create a Food token for each player being attacked and for one white, tap, and tap X Foods you control you create X 1/1 white Human creature tokens.
Game Plan

This is a fairly novel way of using your Food tokens, using them as a way to generate a good number of creature tokens at a fairly cheap rate all things considered.
All we need are creatures to attack our opponents, and we don’t even need to do damage to do so. The opportunity cost to make a combination of a bunch of Food and creature tokens is actually very cheap, and there are plenty ways we can make use of these tokens.
Support

The first thing we need are cheap ways to get some additional Food tokens in play, while also having some cheap creatures that can help fulfill the condition for White to make more Food tokens.
Gingerbrute manages to serve both of these functions by being a Food creature, which can count for White’s ability, and is a one mana creature with haste that has a conditional way to become unblockable in order for us to make sure they survive to be used later and to immediately attack.
Lita, Little Orphan Amphibian is also a solid way for us to make use of some cheap creatures because they have an Alliance trigger to choose one of three options that hasn’t been chosen this turn whenever a creature we control enters and those are to put a +1/+1 counter on them, create a Food token, or scry 1.
Adeline, Resplendent Cathar has it so that whenever we attack, for each opponent, we create a 1/1 Human that is tapped and attacking that player or a Planeswalker they control. We have the Adeline trigger resolve first, and then when White’s trigger goes to resolve, since we are now attacking three players we make three Food tokens.
Since we are also making a bunch of tokens, Rosie Cotton of South Lane is also great because she enters with a Food token, but whenever we create a token we put a +1/+1 counter on a creature we control other than Rosie, which with a good number of tokens coming in, then we can buff up a bunch of creatures or one creature, depending on the situation.
With us using cheap creatures, we can use The Battle of Bywater as a board wipe to destroy all creatures with power 3 or greater and the create a Food token for each creature we control. This will destroy White, so maybe save it for if a board state is really getting out of hand.
There are also other Food synergies we can take advantage of like Bag End Banquet, which enters with three Food tokens and we can tap it to add a colorless mana for each Food we control, which should ideally be a lot of Food tokens.
If we want a lot of value from making a bunch of tokens, we can be a bit tricky as well by using Mirrormind Crown, which has it so that as long as it is attached to a creature, the first time we would create one or more tokens each turn we instead make that many tokens that are copies of the equipped creature.
There are plenty of creatures we can use this effect on for a variety of benefits. Coppercoat Vanguard to give our Humans a huge boost and many instances of ward 1, Lossarnach Captain to tap down a bunch of creatures so we can do a massive swing, Exalted Sunborn for an obscene number of tokens, or Enduring Innocence for a ton of card draw.
Setbacks

The biggest hurdle that this deck has is to maintain a board state that can make us a bunch of tokens. We need to attack each opponent in order for White to trigger, which means that we need at least three cheap creatures in play at all times to attack our opponents in order to make as much Food as possible.
Once our opponents figure this out, all it would take is some spot removal or a board wipe or a tax effect to slow us down from making the most Food we can. Speaking of, board wipes are always a tricky topic in a go wide deck.
I am of the mind that you should always have at least one board wipe in a deck, even in a go wide deck, but that comes with the caveat that they should not really effect your creatures.
The previously mentioned The Battle of Bywater comes to mind as a solid board wipe for us, but that means we can’t have anthem effects that boost our creature’s stats in order to deal a significant amount of damage to win the game.
Which brings the point of making sure that we can stick those anthem effects onto the battlefield to make sure our creatures can swing in for lethal damage.
There is also the fact that we need to make sure that our Foods can stay in play in order for us to make a bunch of tokens. Artifact removal and mass artifact removal is much more common than creature removal, and if someone were to play a Bane of Progress, then we feed it pretty well.
Bracket Rating: High 1, Low 2
While there are a lot of synergies for Apothecary White, I think that she can struggle as a Commander when considering all the hoops we need to jump through in order to get a bunch of tokens.
We need to have some creatures in play, attack our opponents to make Food, generate as much Food as possible, create a bunch of 1/1 Human tokens, wait until our next turn to attack, and then hopefully swing out for a good bit of damage.
Being only in white we will struggle to make sure that our creatures stay on board for us to attack and there are a lot of ways that our game plan can be interrupted in higher brackets.
I do think she can be a fun low bracket build around, theming hard around the Food aspect and make use of all the small synergies that the deck can make use of.
Thank you for reading, see you all tomorrow!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
