Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Narci, Fable Singer!

Narci is a four mana 3/3 with lifelink, whenever you sacrifice an enchantment you draw a card, and whenever the final chapter ability of a Saga you control resolves, each opponents loses X life and you gain X life where X is the mana value of the Saga.

Sagas have had some more support roll out over the years, and Narci is a solid Commander that isn’t purely just value and provides and incentive to play big mana Sagas in order to drain your opponents, while also drawing a card as a bonus.

So the game plan is to get a bunch on big mana Sagas in play to get some pretty solid effects and then work our way to an advantageous position.

Since Narci benefits us from getting big mana Sagas into play, we first be looking for some solid ramp to get to those big Sagas and utility to keep Narci in play.

Composer of Spring is a creature that lets us put a land onto the battlefield tapped whenever we play an enchantment and once we have six or more enchantments on the battlefield then we can instead put a creature or land onto the battlefield tapped. Of course once we get a ton of enchantments, then we can also have Sanctum Weaver in play to make a ton of mana.

With there being plenty of low mana enchantments like Hopeless Nightmare and Alseid of Life’s Bounty being able to be played, this can help Composer of Spring get online faster, especially if we also run other Sagas like The Weatherseed Treaty to help get us a basic in play.

The Birth of Meletis can help us get a basic Plains to our hand, make a blocker, and give us some life all for two mana, Binding the Old Gods acts as a removal spell, ramp for any Forest, and gives our creatures deathtouch for a turn to get them either get rid of some creatures or be a threat for us to attack, and The Creation of Avacyn is a slow tutor, but a tutor nonetheless.

We can also include an Enchantress package in the deck very easily to get a massive amount of card draw. Sythis, Harvest Hand, Eidolon of Blossoms, and Mesa Enchantress can definitely help us dig through our deck to get cards into our hand.

Now that we have a ton of mana and resources, what are going to be the big mana Sagas we play in order to get the most bang for our buck?

Battle at the Helvault is a decent temporary removal spell that we can also use to our benefit if we don’t mind waiting a bit for enters effect, but what it also does is make an 8/8 Avacyn token with flying, vigilance, and indestructible while also draining our opponents for 6 life.

The Cruelty of Gix is also a great Saga for us to include because of the fact that it has Read Ahead, which means we could immediately skip to the last effect to reanimate a creature from any graveyard and trigger Narci to drain our opponents for 5, but we can play the other effects to remove a potentially problematic creature or Planeswalker from their hand or tutor a card into our hand.

While it doesn’t help get Sagas into our hand, The World Spell is something we can use to dig through our deck to get some big mana permanents into our hand and then put them into play when it hits the last chapter, or we already have two big non-Saga permanents that we want to play and Read Ahead to the last part to get them in play.

We can also use The Mending of Dominaria as a way to play through some more of the grindier games since it mills four total cards to our graveyard and gets creatures into our hand, and then if we have a ton of lands in the graveyard, they all come back into play, and we shuffle our graveyard back to our library.

Once we have a decent amount of Sagas in play, now we just need ways to get other benefits to resolving them, or get them back into play.

Wicked Visitor is a way for our opponents to lose a little bit of additional life whenever an enchantment we control goes to the graveyard, which should be happening a decent amount of the time.

There are also ways for us to speed up the process of our Sagas resolving or delay them until we need to with something like Evolution Sage to proliferate to make Sagas resolve faster or Thrull Parasite to get a repeat trigger of a Saga, especially if it has the same mode for a couple chapters.

If we manage to time our Sagas resolving their final chapters correctly, then we can play something like Brought Back, which can bring back two permanents to the battlefield that were sent to the graveyard that turn, meaning if we have say Elspeth Conquers Death and The Eldest Reborn resolve at the same time, then we get even more removal and disruption, and can drain for a lot more.

Historian’s Boon is also a great card to include in the deck because not only do we get a Solier token whenever we play an enchantment, but we also get a 4/4 Angel token with flying and vigilance whenever the final chapter of a Saga resolves. If we have a few Angels flying around and them play Firja’s Retribution, then the Angels can deal the last bit of damage we need to win the game.

Narci is definitely a Commander that has a straightforward game plan that doesn’t want to deviate too much. Playing with Sagas is a slow battle of attrition, gaining value over time while making sure that we can get our things to resolve to drain our opponents.

It isn’t everyone’s favorite play style, but it does have its fans and can be a different way to play an Enchantress deck.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
