Hello everyone!

Over the past year I’ve been working on the website, I have been very appreciative of people reading and engaging in the various blogs that I have done.

It’s nice to see that people enjoy the various blogs that I have written, and I appreciate the likes and the comments that I do get on the blogs, and I do what I can to interact with the comments when they occur.

Looking at the analytics, I am getting more and more viewers to the website which I can again thank you all for either sharing the various blogs, some social media sharing, or people randomly stumbling upon the website and liking what they see.

I do want to extend my thanks to all of you in that regard.

With all that being said, I do want to bring up some important things.

Daily Commander Fate

For those unaware, on the very first blog post describing what Daily Commander was I said that I would do Daily Commander blogs for at least a year and see how I felt about it.

As that year is coming up, October 21st being the last day, I have thought long and hard about what I wanted to do with Daily Commander.

While I could feasibly do it for a very long time, with the current pool of Commanders being over 2500 and growing with each set (especially Universes Beyond sets), I just don’t think that it’s completely feasible for me to do it after the year is up.

I do love writing the Daily Commanders, I really do, but what I have noticed when writing them is that even after writing a bunch of fairly unique Commanders and some popular ones from a different angle, there does come a lot of sameness over time.

Sure not every red and black Commander is a sacrifice based Commander, but there are a lot of them that are and not every green and white deck is either a go wide deck or a +1/+1 counters deck, but a lot of them are.

It would end up that there will be a lot of repetition in what I’m writing, which is something that I am currently actively avoiding to do because I noticed I was falling into that trap.

It’s also sad for me to say that I have been losing motivation to do the Daily Commander blogs. What started off as a fun writing exercise has slowly started to become me trying to motivate myself to write about a Commander that happens to strike my interest and is one I haven’t written about.

I still enjoy writing them, but if I extended that to longer than the year, knowing myself there will come a point to where I actively hate writing them, and I don’t want to get to that point.

So, it’s with a heavy heart that after October 21st, Daily Commander will no longer be the primary blog.

Now this has brought up a conundrum in that if I don’t have Daily Commander as the primary blog, what do I do? I do love writing about various Commanders, so how do I fix this?

Simple.

Make it weekly.

After a light break, on October 31st I will start doing Weekly Commander!

So what will set apart Weekly Commander from Daily Commander? I will have the opportunity to go more in depth on a Commander, go through various strategies and cards that work with those strategies, as well as go through a variety of budget options where I talk about using an expensive card versus a cheaper card and the difference between them in the deck.

It just gives me more to talk about and more for you all to read, because I’m sure regular readers have noticed, I have been writing a lot more recently.

Older Daily Commanders were 500-700 words per blog, and now it has skyrocketed to 1200-1400 words per blog because I have a lot to say, but actively restrict myself to a certain word count so I can get them out.

With it being weekly, I can go into even more depth, include more cards, and talk about more cool strategies that Commanders have.

It’ll ease some of the pressure of making sure that I get a Daily Commander out at the time I want them out and it keeps me writing.

With all that said, what about the other blogs?

Variety Blogs

The next thing to discuss is that since I have started them, I have noticed that the other blogs I have done don’t do very well.

Magic Project: Omega is very much the biggest victim of this because there are certain parts of the series that haven’t even been read. Magic Super Cube does ok, but it also has not so great numbers attached to it.

Not to just be an analytics sort of guy, but why write something that people aren’t going to read? Even if I personally enjoy writing them, there really isn’t much of a point of me writing them.

This was also a difficult thing to think about, but I have come to a decision.

Magic Super Cube will stay and become weekly and Magic Project: Omega will leave.

Magic Project: Omega, while fun, is the series that is the most work for the least gained. I spend a lot of time making cards and looking at them, making sure that they are within the confines of what I would want from a set like that, but having around half of the series not even being read is disheartening.

Magic Super Cube staying on the other hand is because I think that having a way to sort of talking about the history Magic through the lens of a Cube is interesting enough as a series, and has been a series that does get better numbers and has been shared on social media a bit that I am more willing to keep it around.

Now we come onto the Casual Chat, which having to been moved monthly, has been much more refreshing for me personally because not having to have something like that more weekly has made me think of more things to talk about.

Casual Chat allows me to not talk about Magic, and I like to talk about Magic, but having an outlet that let’s me talk about other things is a nice change of pace and is not going away and for now will stay monthly.

Now comes the website manager of me saying that having two blogs a week with one bonus blog a month won’t be enough to justify keeping a website up, so I want to add a third weekly blog.

That’s still in the planning stages, but it will come up at some point in the future and of course I will let you all know when that will be happening!

Support

Now comes the last thing I wanted to talk about, and that was ways you all can help support the website.

I am doing this on my free time, and as much as I would love to keep it that way, things are a bit tough for me right now.

I’m at a slow season at work and my shifts are a bit varied on the days I actually work, so money is a bit tight right now. I am able to manage, thankfully, but it is still going to be tough.

I should also stress, I am not in desperate need for money, I am not asking you to give me money, nor will I ever ask you to actively give me money for writing a blog.

However, I do think that with a bit of work and effort I could potentially have this blog as a second job, maybe even a primary job if I work at it.

Now I do have a way you can support me if you wanted to donate directly and that is through Ko-Fi, which is still open and active if you want to help me there.

However, some of you may have noticed (or not) that I do service some ads on the website. Not many ads because I don’t want to bombard you all with them, but they should currently only be at the bottom of each blog. I will be upping the number of ads, only adding them to the sidebar of the website to potentially help on that front.

Lastly, and this is a big thing for me, but there will soon be another way for you all to support me, and that will be with a brand new…

YouTube Channel!?!?

Yes, I have officially started a brand new YouTube channel!

The channel name is J.M. Casual or you can look for @jmcasualguy on YouTube and you will find the channel.

What’s more, I will be doing a livestream on October 6th and on October 7th starting from 2 p.m. UTC and ending at 6 p.m. UTC.

The plan is for me to play some Final Fantasy IV (review for Final Fantasy III coming soon) for a bit while also offering some Weekly Commander commissions as well.

The way that will work will be through my Ko-Fi, of which a limited number will be made available for $30 USD talking about a Commander of your choice, detailing a variety of strategies, budget and expensive options for cards, and what Game Changers could work well with the deck for at least 2500 words.

There is no obligation to get a commission, it’s an available option for those who want to support and there will not be any content held back for anyone.

I do ask that if you like what I do on YouTube to please like and subscribe and all that as well as give me recommendations on what sort of content you guys want to see.

The goal is to try and stream twice a week, and if it goes well then we’ll see about upping those days. As far as other video ideas, I am open to know what you guys think will be interesting to see from a content creator, whether it be about Magic, video games, card games, or something completely different, I am open to many ideas.

In Conclusion

Thank you all for reading and supporting this last year, it has been a real pleasure doing this and seeing the support from you all has been amazing and I am truly grateful.

Come join the stream on October 6th and 7th to watch me go through Final Fantasy IV and let’s finish off Daily Commander strong!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
