Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about RMS Titanic!

The Titanic is a four mana 7/1 with flying, trample, Crew 3, and when it deals combat damage to a player we sacrifice it and create that many Treasure tokens.

Ever since legendary Vehicles became available as Commanders, one of the more popular choices that was talked about at the time, at least from where I heard it from, was the Titanic, and it’s easy to see why. Being able to potentially get seven Treasure tokens is incredibly enticing, along with the fact that it takes three unblocked hits in order to win with Commander damage.

The tricky part is getting the Titanic able to attack, since it doesn’t have haste, and to have ways to get it back into play without having to continuously pay the Commander Tax that will have us use up all of the Treasures that we worked so hard to get. Luckily for us, we are in just the right colors for this to work.

The first thing we need are ways to get the Titanic to have haste in order to attack as soon as possible.

Tannuk, Steadfast Second is great for this deck because it’s able to give other creatures we control haste and also gives our artifacts an red creatures card Warp for two and a red. This means that we can cast some pretty big creatures that gain haste to have them attack, or more ideally synergize with the Titanic making a bunch of Treasures.

Chandra, Spark Hunter also becomes great for us to have because at the beginning of combat on our turn we can have one Vehicle we control become an artifact creature until end of turn that also happens to gain haste. We can also sacrifice an artifact or discard a card to draw a card, make a 3/2 Vehicle with Crew 1, and potentially gain an emblem where whenever an artifact we control enters the emblem deals 3 damage to any target.

We can have Anger in our graveyard and control a Mountain in order to give creatures we control haste, Bloodsworn Steward to give Commander creatures we control +2/+2 and haste, and Urabrask the Hidden to give creatures we control haste and have creatures our opponents control enter tapped.

Once the Titanic has haste, we can also look at some ways to give it a quick boost in power in order to give us even more Treasures we can use. Insult has damage unable to be prevented this turn and has it so that any damage we deal instead deals double damage and has Injury as an Aftermath card that deals 2 damage to target creature and 2 damage to target player.

Temur Battle Rage gives a creature double strike until end of turn and trample if we control a creature with power 4 or greater, Blood Lust to give s creature +4/-4 and if that creature’s toughness would get less than 1 it becomes 1 instead, and Rush of Blood to give a creature +X/+0 where X is that creature’s power.

Since the Titanic needs to deal damage to get Treasures, ideally we want to either protect the Titanic or have ways to recur it pretty easily.

Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer works really well in protecting the Titanic because all we need to do is sacrifice an artifact in order to give another artifact we control indestructible until the end of turn, which once we have at least one Treasure can mean that we have a better chance at protecting the Titanic.

Even something as simple as a Welding Jar can help protect the Titanic because all we need to do is sacrifice it in order to regenerate target artifact. Wonderous Crucible is a neat way to not only protect the Titanic by giving permanents we control ward 2, but also milling two cards and exiling a nonland card from our graveyard, copy it, and being able to cast the copy for free can actually get the Titanic from the graveyard in a way.

In terms of getting the Titanic back onto the battlefield if it does in fact go to the graveyard, we also have several options available to us. Daretti, Rocketeer Engineer has whenever it enters or attacks, we can sacrifice an artifact in order to return an artifact from our graveyard to the battlefield.

If we want to be a bit faster in bringing the Titanic from our graveyard back into play, then we could also play Daretti, Scrap Savant which has a -2 to sacrifice an artifact in order to bring an artifact from our graveyard back to the battlefield. We can also discard up to two cards and draw that many cards, and if we somehow manage to get the ultimate, we gain an emblem that returns an artifact that was put into your graveyard from the battlefield back onto the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step.

The best way for us to get the Titanic back into play for decently cheap is of course Goblin Welder, which can tap and we choose an artifact a player controls and an artifact in that player’s graveyard, and if they are still legal targets, the artifact in play is sacrificed and the artifact in the graveyard comes back to the battlefield.

Now the last thing we need are additional ways to win, because while we can deal a bunch of damage with the Titanic, aggro can always use the extra bit of help to win.

Ingenious Artillerist is perfect for the Titanic in this case because whenever one or more artifacts we control enter then the Artillerist deals that much damage to each opponent, which for an unblocked Titanic can mean 7 extra damage to each opponent, sort of forcing our opponents to block the Titanic in order to prevent us from making Treasures.

Even something like a Reckless Fireweaver which deals 1 damage to each opponent whenever an artifact we control enters the battlefield, a Quicksmith Genius to give us the option to discard a card to then draw a card whenever an artifact enters the battlefield under our control, or a Descent into Avernus to give each player Treasures and then deal some extra damage to each player can help us get a little more damage through.

We also should have a metric ton of Treasures, so any synergies from their work wonderfully. Crime Novelist has it so that whenever we sacrifice an artifact we put a +1/+1 counter on it and add a red mana, which doubles the amount of mana, Xorn makes us an additional Treasure token, Goldspan Dragon doubles the amount of mana our Treasure make, and Rain of Riches makes us two Treasure tokens and the first spell we cast each turn with Treasures has Cascade.

Then we can use all those Treasures and all that mana to cast a massive X spell like Crackle with Power to deal five times X damage to each of up to X targets, Balduvian Rage to give a creature +X/+0 until end of turn to have the Titanic one shot an opponent, or cast Isengard Unleashed to have damage not being able to be prevented and have sources we control deal triple damage while also being able to Flashback it to deal nine times the damage.

The Titanic is a pure value Commander in being able to get a ton of Treasures into play at a decent rate while also having a decent number of ways to recur it back into play so we don’t have to spend too much mana repeatedly casting it from the Command Zone.

The inherent weakness of it being a Vehicle has not been discounted, and there are plenty of creatures in the deck that can Crew it by themselves, but not having creatures to Crew the Titanic can be very bad for us indeed.

What’s more is that we lose a lot of resources through mass artifact removal, of which there is plenty, and we don’t happen to run a lot of other interaction pieces since we are primarily an aggro deck.

Of the various Vehicle Commanders the Titanic is simple and direct, but being able to get a ton of mana with a single swing of a creature is always tempting and can help us stabilize if we happen to fall behind on land drops as well as potentially get ahead with all the mana we have available to us.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
