Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!
Today we are going to be talking about The Prima Vista!

The Prima Vista is a five mana 5/3 Vehicle with flying that whenever you cast a noncreature spell if at least four mana was spent to cast it, The Prima Vista becomes and artifact creature until end of turn with a Crew 2.
Since Edge of Eternities is opening the flood gates and making Legendary Vehicles able to be Commanders, I wanted to take a look at a Commander that doesn’t have many decks (as of writing this, only one deck on EDHREC) which means that there is an open opportunity for brewing.
The goal of the deck is to cast big noncreature spells in order for The Prima Vista to become a creature while also trying to find a way to find an interesting angle to take the deck in, since there aren’t that many people brewing with the deck currently, we can work to alleviate that.

So what we need in order to be able to cast the big spells we want for The Prima Vista, we need ways to generate mana, which blue does have in a limited capacity, but that can work for us.
Grand Architect is a lord for blue creatures while also able to turn an artifact creature blue until end of turn, but more importantly can tap an untapped blue creature we control to make two colorless mana that can only be used to cast artifact spells or activate abilities of artifacts.
This is a common way that blue generates mana, which is helpful because we can be a big artifact deck to get The Prima Vista online, and there are other cards like Guidelight Optimizer which is a regular mana dork in that it makes a blue mana with the same restriction that Grand Architect has.
We can also get a relatively continuous stream of this sort of restrictive mana by using Geology Enthusiast, which at the beginning of our end step makes a tapped Powerstone token, which can’t be used to cast nonartifact spells but it can be used for the activated abilities of any card.
If we can get a decent number of smaller artifacts in play, then we can also use Moonsnare Prototype, which can tap itself and an untapped artifact we control to make a colorless mana. It also has a Channel ability that can be useful as a piece of removal since it can bounce a nonland permanent to the top or bottom of its owner’s library.
Blue also has access to being able to untap permanents, which we can use to gain some more mana from our mana dorks or from our lands if we need some specific colors. Something like Nimbleclaw Adept which can untap up to two target permanents at sorcery speed and once each turn, which can be used for a big haymaker spell.
There are also plenty of expensive to cast mana rocks that we can take advantage of like Sisay’s Ring since it is four mana and can tap for two colorless mana, which is great for some spells later on but is also a noncreature spell to activate The Prima Vista.

Next up are the artifacts that we are going to be using as a combination of utility as well as activating The Prima Vista.
Unwinding Clock is going to be immensely useful for us because it lets us untap all of our artifacts we control during each other player’s untap step, and since we will have a few mana artifacts and The Prima Vista which will be our primary source of damage, untapping and having a consistent threat and access to mana will be necessary.
To help get the threat of The Prima Vista being online, we can also use Vedalken Orrery, which let’s us cast spells as if they had flash, which not only can be useful when we have Unwinding Clock in play to dump some artifacts into play on our opponents turns, but also as a way to get some mana dorks in play to have them ready to tap when it comes to our turn.
Caged Sun is also a way for us to get some big mana benefits since we are in one color in that we choose a color and creatures we control of that color get +1/+1, and whenever a land’s ability would add one or more mana of that color, it adds an additional mana of that color. Gauntlet of Power does something similar, but it is symmetrical and only applies to basic lands that would add that color.
Since there are a ton of artifacts that we are playing and we can have a bunch of ways to get a bunch of mana and ways to untap our artifacts, Horizon Stone also becomes a solid potential inclusion because if we would lose unspent mana, it becomes colorless instead, meaning we can bank so much mana during our opponents turns that when it comes back to us we have access to so much mana we can cast a practically our whole deck.
With all that excess mana then something like Mirrorworks becomes much more viable since whenever another nontoken artifact comes into play under our control we can pay two mana to create a token that’s a copy of that artifact.

The last thing we need are ways to win, and since we can potentially make a ton of mana, we need to find ways to spend that mana.
Chimeric Mass is a solid way to have a potentially big creature in play that can also trigger The Prima Vista. What makes Chimeric Mass interesting that it’s power and toughness is dictated by the number of charge counters on it, which it gets X charge counters when it enters and is only one mana to become a creature.
Since a lot of our mana is restricted to artifacts, we need to place a majority of our focus on either big artifacts or artifacts that we can spend a lot of mana on. Clown Car, one of the few Un-cards legal in Commander, is excellent in this regard because we roll X six-sided dice and for each odd result we make a 1/1 Clown Robot token and for each even result we put that many +1/+1 counters on the Clown Car.
While a creature, Phyrexian Triniform is a great way for us to get more bodies in play since when it dies we make three 3/3 Phyrexian Golem tokens and has an Encore that costs twelve mana, which makes a token copy of itself with haste for each opponent we have and it must attack that opponent and sacrifices itself at the beginning of the end step, meaning that we get nine more Phyrexian Golems that can be used to attack or Crew as we need.
If we have access to Simulacrum Synthesizer, then we can potentially have a constant stream of massive Construct tokens that get +1/+1 for each artifact we control whenever we cast an artifact with a mana value of three or greater.
We are working to have a ton of artifacts in play, and if we manage to get enough of them in play then Tezzeret the Seeker can be a way for us to swing out with our artifacts with his ultimate turning our artifacts into 5/5 creatures, while also being able to untap up to two artifacts and tutor an artifact onto the battlefield.
The Prima Vista on its face is a decent Commander, but what makes the deck interesting is finding a play style that works well with it. Of course this deck is what amounts to a draft template of a deck that focuses on the artifact aspect since it is one of the easier ways for the deck to get The Prima Vista online, there are plenty of other ways to explore how this deck can work.
While there isn’t a lot of data sets, I can see that The Prima Vista can be an interesting way to show how Vehicles can work as Commanders, especially if we apply a bit of creative thinking. Is it the most competitive deck, no, but there are ways we can work to tune the deck into something interesting to play with, in my opinion.
Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
