Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Infinite Guideline Station!

Infinite Guideline Station is a five mana Station that when it enters create a tapped 2/2 colorless Robot artifact creature token for each multicolored permanent we control, has the Station ability for when it gets 12 or more charge counters it becomes a 7/15 artifact creature with flying and when it attacks we draw a card for each multicolored permanent we control.

Starting with Edge of Eternities, legendary Vehicles and legendary Spacecrafts can be your Commander and while this news has been around for a while, I wanted to wait until it was after all of Edge of Eternities was previewed before I wrote about it.

With regards to the Guideline Station (the name is awkward because of the ability also being called Station so I can’t say the Station needs to be Stationed without sounding awkward) having a multicolor matters Commander is pretty neat, especially since it can’t self fuel itself for shenanigans since it makes colorless Robots, so we need to find ways to make our things multicolored or get a bunch of multicolored things to get the most value out of it.

The first thing we need are some cheap multicolored things in order to help us get a board established.

Fallaji Wayfarer is the only of its kind I believe in that it is technically a monocolored creature and a multicolored creature because of its ability saying that it’s both, but that not being the big thing about the card since what is important is that it give multicolored spells we cast convoke, which is incredibly handy in a five color deck.

We can also make use of of Jared Carthalion who is a Planeswalker whose +1 makes a 3/3 Kavu that is all colors, a -3 that gives two creatures we control +1/+1 counters equal to the number of colors it is, and a -6 that returns a multicolored permanent from the graveyard to our hand that if it was all five colors we draw a card and make two Treasure tokens.

If we have some monocolored creatures or colorless cards that we need to use for utility like a Birds of Paradise or an Arcane Signet, we can also use Leyline of the Guildpact as a way to make our nonland permanents all colors and also happens to make all of our lands each basic land type so we always have the mana that we need, all while being able to get onto the battlefield for free if its in our opening hand.

While I mention mana bases, we can use lands that become creatures like the Restless land cycle since, while they enter tapped, can become creatures that are two colors that can provide some utility when they attack like Restless Cottage making a Food token and exiling a card from a graveyard.

The next thing we need to look for are some multicolored utility creatures that can help us get some value before we get the Guideline Station into play.

Kiora’s Follower is a solid card that can untap another permanent, which could be used in a variety of ways, but since Station requires us to tap a creature in order to add that many charge counters, then having a way to get a large creature to add multiple counters would be very useful.

Jegantha, the Wellspring is also a solid card to have in the deck (potentially as a Companion, depends on how you build the deck) primarily because it has the ability to add all five colors of mana that can’t be used for generic costs, meaning that when we are able to untap with it we can cast the Guideline Station.

Or we can cast anything in our deck if we also happen to have Jodah, Archmage Eternal or Fist of Suns which let’s us pay all five colors of mana rather than the original mana cost, which helps us cast massive spells for a decent enough discount.

Yarok, the Desecrated is also a solid choice because it acts as a Panharmonicon in that if a permanent entering the battlefield causes a triggered ability of a permanent we control to trigger, it triggers again, which works perfectly for the Guideline Station and even better for when we talk about how this deck wins a bit later.

In terms of noncreature permanents that happen to be multicolor that we can use, Maelstrom Nexus gives the first spell we cast each turn cascade, Insidious Roots gives creature tokens the ability we control to tap for a mana of any color, Brokers Ascendency puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature we control and a loyalty counter on each Planeswalker we control, and Combine Chrysalis gives creature tokens we control flying and the ability to turn a token into a 4/4 Beast.

Even though we are focused on permanents, we also can have access to a ton of instants and sorceries that can deal with any issue, like Rakdos Charm to exile a graveyard, destroy an artifact, or have each creature deal 1 damage to its controller, Growth Spiral to draw a card and put a land from our hand onto the battlefield, and Void Rend to have an uncounterable way to destroy a nonland permanent.

Now of course we need a way to win, and I think that making use of the fact that we can make a ton of Robots would be incredibly useful.

Mistmeadow Vanisher is a great way to to this because when it becomes tapped we exile up to one target nonland, nontoken permanent and we return that card to the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step, which is great that it lets us target the Guideline Station to flicker it to get a ton of Robots.

In a similar vein Yorion, Sky Nomad also let’s us flicker our nonland permanents to make use of any other enters abilities when they come back at the beginning of our end step, which can be quite a few things but more importantly gets us so many Robots.

If we happen to have access to Displacer Kitten, then we can get a repeatable flicker effect whenever we cast a noncreature spell, which means that any removal spell like a Despark also turns into a bunch of Robots, a ramp spell like Planar Genesis becomes a bunch of Robots, and a board wipe like Ruinous Ultimatum also becomes a bunch of Robots.

We can also consider the now unbanned Game Changer Coalition Victory as an emergency win condition since we can easily get a creature of every color into play and a land with each basic land type, but I would probably not include it at all because it can be a cheap way to win as opposed to the Robot uprising.

While I think the Guideline Station is a decent enough value Commander in that we can get a ton of Robots, it is generic enough that its abilities, while good, aren’t as flashy as one would expect.

It needs a decent amount of set up to be viable so that we can get a ton of Robots in the first place, and if our board gets wiped before we can cast it, then we need to reestablish which can take time, especially since we are a five colored deck.

However, I do think that it is an interesting Commander overall and can’t wait to talk about other Spacecraft and Vehicles as Commanders in the future. I have a feeling Planeswalkers are next, but that’s more of a matter of when and not if in my opinion.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
