Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter!

Oviya is a one mana 1/2 that for two and a green and tap to create a 1/1 colorless Servo token and for four and a green and tap you create an X/X Construct artifact creature token where X is the number of creatures you control.

Oviya is a Commander that cares about going wide in order to have a way to go tall, ideally making a bunch of smaller Servos in order to make a really big Construct token, and since she is one mana this means we can get this working pretty early if we have a decent amount of mana generation, which in green is easy enough.

Another aspect of the deck is that we need additional ways to go wide, because while Oviya can reliably make some tokens, we need some more ways to get a bunch of creatures on the battlefield, as well as ways to make more and more Construct tokens.

The first thing we need to take a look at are ways to have a way to consistently make a bunch of tokens.

Biowaste Blob is perfect for us because at the beginning of our upkeep we make a token copy of it and it gives other Oozes we control +1/+1. Oozes have a decent amount of ways to generate tokens like Biogenic Ooze which enters with an Ooze token, can make an Ooze token for 4 mana, and at the beginning of our end step give Oozes we control a +1/+1 counter.

Freyalise, Llanowar’s Fury creates a 1/1 Elf Druid token that can tap for one mana as a +2 ability, can destroy an artifact or enchantment as a -2 ability, or can draw us cards equal to the number of green creatures we control as a -6 ability. In a similar vein Garruk, Primal Hunter can make a 3/3 Beast token, draw cards equal to the highest power among creatures we control, and can ultimate into making a number of 6/6 Wurm tokens equal to the number of lands we control.

March of the World Ooze makes our creatures into 6/6 Oozes while also making 3/3 Elephant creature tokens whenever an opponent casts a spell not on their turns, Scute Swarm makes Insect tokens as a Landfall trigger until we hit six or more lands to start making copies of itself, and Sylvan Scavenging can either make one of our creatures bigger or can make a 3/3 Raccoon token if we control a creature with power 4 or greater.

Since we are going for a massive board, it should also be helpful for us to consider Tendershoot Dryad, which has Ascend which we should be able to achieve pretty easily and at the beginning of each upkeep we make a Saproling token and once we have the city’s blessing then Saprolings we control get +2/+2.

As we are casting these token generators, we need a decent amount of mana, and we can get some of the heat off of us if we gives some to our opponents as well.

Eladamri’s Vineyard is a solid card for this deck because it is a one mana way for us to consistently get two green mana at the beginning of our first main phase, but first it gives that mana to our opponents to use, and that may incentivize our opponents to not attack us immediately in order to help get their things going sooner.

Magus of the Vineyard is literally the same thing as Eladamri’s Vineyard but stapled to a creature, Collective Voyage can allow everyone to pay in some mana in order to get more basics onto the battlefield, and Seed the Land can be used to give everyone a Snake token whenever they play a land.

Now of course we should be playing cards that benefit us more, so something like Vernal Bloom should be on the top of our priority list as a way to make sure that we have enough mana to activate Oviya’s ability. We can also make use of cards like Fog in order to make sure that we stay safe from people attacking us.

We should also make it so that our opponent have a bit of a tougher time playing their things, and since we won’t be relying on too many artifacts, we can play something like Hum of the Radix, which makes artifact spells more expensive for each artifact that player controls. Even though we make artifacts, we aren’t really casting a ton of artifact spells, so we will face minimal repercussions to playing it.

Once we have reached a favorable position, then we can cast Rampage of the Clans to destroy all artifacts and enchantments and for each permanent destroyed this way, its controller makes a 3/3 Centaur token, which if we slowly accumulate Servo tokens then we should be able to replace them with a bunch of bigger tokens and start focusing on making X/X Construct tokens.

Now that we have ways to generate a decent amount of mana while also making sure that our opponents are held at bay, we need to start making our Construct army.

Enduring Vitality is the first part of this plan because it turns a bunch of our creatures into mana dorks that we can use to make a metric ton of mana, then we use something like Vitalize and Mobilize to untap our creatures so we can get more mana to use for Oviya.

There are a bunch of one mana cards to untap Oviya like Emerald Charm which can also destroy a non-Aura enchantment or make a creature lose flying for a turn, Burst of Strength also gives a +1/+1 counter and untaps a creature, and Instill Energy can untap the enchanted creature once on each of our turns and gives it sort of haste.

Since we are making a ton of mana, we can also make use of Staff of Domination to untap Oviya and untap itself, while also having other utilities in gaining life, tapping another creature, or drawing a card as we need it.

One of the more effective ways for us to untap Oviya is to use Pili-Pala, which for two mana and untap the equipped creature we can add one mana of any color, which helps us in being able to get some more activations off of Oviya.

Since we are also in mono-green, we can take full advantage of Virtue of Strength, which allows us to make triple mana whenever we tap a basic for mana, and if we have access to it we can also use Doubling Cube to double the amount of mana in our mana pool in order to get an immense Construct army ready to go.

We can then use the other side of Ulvenwald Oddity, Ulvenwald Behemoth to give our creatures +1/+1, trample and haste in order for us to sweep up our opponents, although if you do have access to a Concordant Crossroads which gives all creatures haste then that would be a more mana efficient way to allow us to attack and can allow us a couple more Constructs.

Oviya can be a feast or famine Commander, in that we are dedicating a ton of resources into generating a wide board, a lot of mana, and several ways to untap Oviya as a way to make a bunch of big Constructs to win us the game.

We are very susceptible to board wipes, and there will be plenty of opponents that will not be swayed by giving them mana and other resources and they will still attack us well before we have an established board presence.

This deck is not one that will win a lot of games, but is an interesting way to build a mono color deck that can be an effective go wide strategy with a go tall win that doesn’t rely on being typal focused. Once we do have our Construct factory working however, we can win in dramatic fashion from a Commander that most people won’t be expecting much from.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
