Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be looking at Omo, Queen of Vesuva!

Omo is a three mana 1/5 with whenever they enter or attack you put an everything counter on each of up to one target land and up to one target creature, with a land that has an everything counter is every land type and a creature that has an everything counter on it being every creature.

One of the best ways to get a ton of land synergies and a way to get a ton of creature synergies as well, the way to play with Omo is going to vary on the person.

The way that I will be building it is actually as a typal focused Commander, being that I am going to be playing with a variety of creature typal effects, as well as ways to try and spread the everything counters more efficiently.

The first thing that we are going to be looking for are some of the most efficient typal lords and anthems we can play.

Master of the Pearl Trident is one of the better options we can look at because while it is a standard lord effect of giving other Merfolk creatures we control +1/+1, it also gives them islandwalk, which means that if we want we can use Omo’s effect offensively in giving our opponents lands an everything counter to essentially make our creatures unblockable.

Greatbow Doyen is an interesting creature to consider because it gives Archer creatures we control +1/+1 and whenever an Archer we control deals damage to a creature that Archer deals damage to that creature’s controller as well, which means fight spells can become burn spells as well.

Scion of Oona can give Faeries we control shroud, Sea Gate Loremaster can draw us a ton of cards if we control a lot of Allies with Harabaz Druid tapping for a lot of mana for the number of Allies we control, and Avenger of Zendikar to give our Plants a +1/+1 counter whenever we play a land.

Of course some of the best ways to give our creatures effects are the Slivers, with Megantic Sliver and Predatory Sliver giving power and toughness buffs, Brood Sliver to make more Slivers when they deal combat damage, Shadow Sliver and Shifting Sliver to give Slivers evasion, and Virulent Sliver to make all our Slivers have an additional win condition in poison.

The next thing we need to do is find ways to get everything counters to as many things we creature we can as possible.

Aven Courier is very efficient in its ability to be able to give counters from any permanent we control onto another permanent we control, which means that if we don’t have a creature with an everything counter but do have lands with everything counters, then we can add one to a creature we control with ease.

From there is where we have to be a bit creative in how we distribute the everything counters, using counter doubling effects like Gilder Bairn combined with counter moving effects like Goldberry, River-Daughter in order to distribute counters to other creatures.

One of the cheapest ways we can move counters from one permanent to another is Nesting Grounds, which we can pay one mana and tap to move a counter from one permanent to another. If we have access to it The Ozolith can be a way to store counters when a creature we control dies and then move them onto other creatures during our combat phase.

We can also make use of effects that can double triggered abilities like Strionic Resonator also work to our favor, blink effects to retrigger the enters effects like Conjurer’s Closet are also worth considering, and clone effects can like Irenicus’s Vile Duplication to gain an additional enters trigger and attack trigger can also be used to our advantage.

The way that we win the game are using some of the big typal effects that either put us way ahead or set our opponents way behind.

Broodcaller Scourge is an instance that puts us ahead because if one or more Dragons we control deal damage to a player we can put a permanent with mana value less than or equal to that damage from our hand to the battlefield, which with all the lords and anthems we are packing in the deck should mean most things in our hand can be played for free.

Whelming Wave is a way to set our opponents behind because it bounces all creatures that aren’t Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents or we can use Cyclone Summoner to bounce all permanents that aren’t Giants, Wizards, and lands if we want a massive board wipe that we can recover from easier than our opponents.

This whole time we can also make use of our lands being every land type and use Cloudpost to make a ton of mana since all of our lands will also be Locus lands and we can use a ton of mana to cast some of our bigger lord and anthem spells like Rolling Hamsphere to get a massive body that can also be used to deal a ton of extra damage when it attacks.

Omo is an interesting Commander in that most people tend to make them a lands matter Commander, which is valid and probably the better way to play them, but I think that playing a super typal deck is one of the more interesting ways to play Omo because of the versatility that is available.

Yes, there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make sure that Omo can get counters onto our things, but that means that when we do then we have made a very difficult to interact with board that can deal a massive amount of damage if our opponents are ignoring us.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
