Hello and welcome back to Magic Project: Omega!
It has been a while since I last updated you all because of my vacation to Japan, but it is so good to be back!
Now that I have returned I can finish off the signpost Uncommons and further flesh out the themes of the set.
Without further ado, the last of the signpost Uncommons!
White/Black: Knights

I didn’t want too many typal strategies to take over the drafting of the set, and while there will be some other typal synergies, I wanted at one defensive typal strategy and one aggressive typal strategy.
Black Knight and White Knight are a couple of iconic cards in ABU, and I thought that having Knights being the prevalent typal strategy would be something different to work with.
I wanted an aggressive strategy, and I do know that first strike on a lot of creatures inherently can cause issues, but having a lord effect giving other Knights first strike can help ease the issue a little bit since you can target the removal at Chaos Knight to get rid of all the Knights having first strike.
Blue/Red: Spellslinging

It’s always good to have a tried and true archetype to build a set around, and building a spellslinging deck should be interesting from a design stand point.
This is a bit of design I’m a little more wary of, especially at the current mana cost and the ritual ability. I can probably change the mana generation ability to only work with instants and sorceries to balance things a bit at it’s current mana cost.
I do love the last ability though, especially since it gives the player a clear direction to build a deck in. Of the cards I have currently designed, this one is probably going to be the one that is reworked the most in the future.
Black/Green: Reanimate

There is usually an archetype that involves graveyard interaction in some way, and since green is being built to have some major mana generation, I thought that having a reanimation mechanic could work well.
I do think it is fairly costed, maybe a bit underwhelming at first glance, but I do plan to build some plentiful mana generation in green, so being able to dump more mana into it should be easier than in traditional sets.
This also allows me to build higher mana value creatures with really good enters the battlefield effects that can be reanimated, which is always fun to do.
Red/White: Go Wide Aggro

I am a huge fan of go wide token strategies, and red and white are the best color combination of getting this effect.
I think that I may have overbalanced this card, but let me explain my reasoning. With cards like Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon and Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin they add the +1/+1 counters to get more bodies on the field when either they or another creature attacks.
I wanted to get this going quickly while also making cheap combat tricks better in the short term to start getting board presence quickly. There is a way to make it stronger, but it does cost a price that I think I could reduce in the future to make it more effective.
Green/Blue: Big Mana Spells

To finish off the enemy signpost Uncommons, I wanted to touch on an archetype that occasionally comes around in green and blue, but make it a little more desirable.
Adding two mana is good, but having it so that any instant or sorcery spell you cast with that mana is copied incentivizes you to cast bigger X spells that will be in the set.
It also acts as a foil to the red and green uncommon in that you can use the mana for any spell, but you gain more of a benefit if you use the mana to cast instants and sorceries rather than creatures.
In Conclusion
These signpost Uncommons are a good foundation to work with, but I do think that some adjustments are needed.
If you have ways I can adjust these cards, please leave a comment. I am open to critiques and suggestions! When I next talk about Magic Project: Omega, I think I’ll start making my round at some commons to get things started. I’ll do five common creatures of each color first, starting with white.
Next week is going to be the Magic Super Cube talking about Legends, which is going to be interesting because it’ll be the first set to start bringing in multicolor cards into the fold and that is going to be fun.
Thank you for reading, see you next time!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
