Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!
Today we are going to be talking about Gorion, Wise Mentor!

Gorion is a three mana 3/4 with vigilance and whenever you cast an Adventure spell, you may copy it and you may choose new targets for the copy.
This has a straightforward enough strategy in casting a bunch of Adventure cards, which is the main idea, but while I was looking at potential cards to go with Gorion, I noticed that another strategy presented itself.
First and foremost this is going to be an Adventure deck, but there will be something else that the deck will do in the late game.

The first thing we need to look at are cards that help us whenever we cast an Adventure spell or a card from exile.
Lucky Clover is the primary example of something that we can get benefit from since it does what Gorion does, which means if we have both out we get two copies of the Adventure spell.
We also have another creature that can copy Adventure spells in Chancellor of Tales, which is a little pricey at four mana, but having an additional way to copy our Adventure spells is not something to sneeze at.
While it doesn’t copy our spells, Edgewall Innkeeper is a great early game play to draw us more cards whenever we cast a creature card that has an Adventure, and we don’t even need to have cast them as an Adventure first.
Mysterious Pathlighter puts a +1/+1 counter on creatures we control that enter that have an Adventure, Wandermare puts a +1/+1 counter on itself whenever a we cast a creature spell with an Adventure, and Howling Galefang has haste as long as we have a card in exile with Adventure.
There is also Vega, the Watcher which draws a card whenever we cast a spell from anywhere other than our hand, Doc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius which makes spells we cast from our graveyard or exile 2 mana cheaper, and Sage of the Beyond which also makes spells we cast from anywhere other than our hand 2 mana cheaper.

Next up our Adventure spells, and we should focus on cards that have abilities that we would want to copy.
Twining Twins is a solid example because the Adventure of Swift Spiral can be used to remove a problematic creature for a turn or something we can use to get a couple of additional enters triggers.
Brazen Borrower’s Petty Theft is a great way to bounce creatures back to hand, Beanstalk Wurm’s Plant Beans can allow us to play two additional lands, Rosethorn Acolyte to give us an additional mana, Guardian Naga’s Banishing Coils to exile multiple artifacts and enchantments, and Ardenvale Tactician’s Dizzying Swoop to tap a bunch of creatures.
We also have access to the Virtue cycle from Wilds of Eldraine, Virtue of Loyalty for tokens and counters, Virtue of Strength to bring something back from the graveyard and ramp for our basics, and Virtue of Knowledge for even more copying shenanigans.

Now onto the strategy I saw that looks to be a great way for us to get into an incredibly dominant position.
One interesting thing about Adventure cards is that they are considered permanents when they are in places other than the stack when the Adventure half is cast, which means that we can make use of Primal Surge, which puts a bunch of permanents onto the battlefield.
This means that we can potentially put our whole deck onto the battlefield, which would include our bigger Adventure cards in Beanstalk Giant, Realm-Cloaked Giant, Horned Loch-Whale, and Tlincalli Hunter.
We can also pack the deck with cards that help our creatures like Concordant Crossroads to give everything haste, Unnatural Growth to make our creature bigger, Horn of Valhalla to make one creature huge, and even Jace, Wielder of Mysteries as an alternate win condition if we decide to put everything onto the battlefield and don’t win the game on a massive alpha strike.
Gorion is a simple Commander in that it directs you in what to play, but that doesn’t mean that there are alternative ways to use that strategy in our favor. While there will be a majority of the time we won’t be able to cast Primal Surge, the times we do will be amazing.
Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
