Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Omnath, Locus of Rage!

Omnath is a seven mana 5/5 with Landfall make a 5/5 red and green Elemental creature token and whenever Omnath or another Elemental you control dies, then Omnath deals 3 damage to any target.

As with many versions of Omnath, there is a massive Landfall theme and this one is to get a ton of lands onto the battlefield to make a field of Elementals that are not only big, but also become Lightning Bolts when they die.

The plan is pretty easy, get a ton of lands on the battlefield to get Omnath onto the battlefield, get lands in play to make our army of Elementals, and swing with reckless abandon.

The first thing we need to do is get as many lands onto the battlefield, not only for Omnath’s ability, but also to cast it.

Oracle of Mul Daya is an interesting choice because it allows us to play an additional land as well as play lands from the top of our library, but we play with the top card of our library revealed. We aren’t hiding our plan when we play Omnath, but there are still a few surprises that may get spoiled.

In any case, Courser of Kruphix is also an option to play lands from the top of our library and helps us gain life whenever we play a land, Tireless Provisioner creates a Food or Treasure token whenever a land enters, and Loot, Exuberant Explorer allows us to play an extra land and then eventually cheat something out onto the battlefield.

There are also cards like Springbloom Druid, Harrow, and Roiling Regrowth which allow us to sacrifice a land to get two basics onto the battlefield, tapped in the case of Springbloom Druid and Roiling Regrowth. Entish Restoration is one of the best versions of this effect, since if we control a creature with power 4 or greater we get three basics instead.

Since we are going to be having a bunch of Elementals, then we should also consider a little bit of Elemental typal cards.

Caterwauling Boggart is a fun card that not only give Goblins menace, but also Elementals, which for a swarm of 5/5 Elementals is a great thing to have in our toolbox. Speaking of, there is also Thicket Crasher to give our other Elementals trample, making them an even bigger threat.

Additionally we also have Brighthearth Banneret to make our Elementals, primarily Omnath, cheaper by 1 mana, Smokebraider to add two mana of any color to cast Elemental spells, Incandescent Soulstroke to be a lord for our Elementals, and Lavakin Brawler who gets bigger for each Elemental we control.

There is also a fun little way to make another use of our Elementals with Hearthcage Giant, which makes two Elemental tokens when it enters, but also can be a sacrifice outlet to sacrifice our Elementals to make itself bigger and with Omnath in play to deal 3 damage to any target.

So after a big attack we can sacrifice our Elementals to clean up any lingering creatures or deal damage to our opponents to get them out of the game or put pressure on them.

Since our goal is to get a bunch of creatures with decent power, we should take advantage of cards that provide bonuses in that regard.

Cactusfolk Sureshot is such on option since it gives other creatures we control with power 4 or greater gain trample and haste until the end of the turn, which means that any Elementals Omnath makes become immediate threats.

Outcaster Trailblazer can draw us a card whenever one of the Elementals enters the battlefield, See the Unwritten to cheat out one creature to the battlefield from our library or two if control a creature with power 4 or greater, and Jolene, Plundering Pugilist to make a Treasure token whenever we attack with a big creature.

Since we are going to be controlling a bunch of creatures with power, then cards that care about the total power of our creatures like Dragon Whisperer which can make a 4/4 Dragon token with flying if creatures we control have total power 8 or higher or Targ Nar, Demon-Fang Gnoll which when it attacks and the total power of attacking creature we control is 6 or higher then attacking creatures we control get +1/+0 until end of turn.

Omnath is a simple Commander to understand, with the biggest challenge being able to get enough mana quick enough to get it to do what it wants to do.

There is the additional benefit that Omnath can let your Elementals deal damage when they die, so that can help us get rid of creatures that stay in play or can potentially deal enough damage to win the game.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
