Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Morska, Undersea Sleuth!

Morska is a three mana 2/3 that gives you no maximum hand size, investigates at the beginning of your upkeep and whenever you draw your second card each turn then you put two +1/+1 counters on Morska.

A second draw Commander is a neat idea, especially since we are going to be making a ton of Clues to help facilitate that plan. I think we should lean into making all of those Clues to get Morska as big as possible.

There are also way to take advantage of the Clues besides drawing cards, and we should also play into that.

Since we are focusing on getting a ton of Clues onto the battlefield, we should have a number of way to do so.

Tireless Tracker is one of the better ways to get this done because of their Landfall ability to investigate as well as them getting a benefit from us sacrificing Clues by also getting bigger.

There is also Ethereal Investigator, which investigates a number of times equal to the number of opponents we have and makes a 1/1 Spirit with flying whenever we draw our second card. Lonis, Cryptozoologist is a solid choice because they investigate whenever a nontoken creature we control enters and we can sacrifice the Clues to cheat something onto the battlefield.

We can also use Lonis, Genetics Expert to investigate whenever it gets +1/+1 counters, which should trigger fairly often since it also has Evolve, and puts a +1/+1 counter on another creature whenever we sacrifice a Clue.

The next thing we should look at are additional way to get value out of all the Clue tokens that we make.

Jaheira, Friend of the Forest is perfect in this instance for the simple fact that she turns our Clue tokens into mana rocks that we can use to cast some of our bigger spells.

Similarly, there is Five Hundred Year Diary which makes a blue mana for each Clue we control, which includes itself, which means that we can potentially cast a massive spell and still have a ton of mana left over to cast other spells or crack Clues to make Morska bigger.

If we don’t want to worry about spending mana to crack our Clues, then we can use Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh to reduce the two mana cost to activate our first artifact each turn, which means we can potentially get one free draw each turn.

There is also Kappa Cannoneer which gets bigger when it or another artifact enters the battlefield and it can’t be blocked this turn, while also having Improvise which means we can potentially cast it early and then get more Clues to make it bigger to make a massive unblockable attack.

If we want to be a bit funny, then we can play Displaced Dinosaurs to turn any historic permanent that enters the battlefield under our control into a 7/7 Dinosaur, which will hopefully get us access to a massive army of Dinosaurs.

If things go to plan then we should be able to get a ton of mana and access to card draw, which means we can start playing spells with X in them to get huge benefits.

Sphinx’s Revelation is a classic example of this because at instant speed we can draw a ton of cards and gain a ton of life to pull far ahead. With Morska giving us an unlimited hand size, then we can hold back a ton of mana to draw as much as we please.

Speaking of making our things huge, there is also Biomass Mutation to turn our creatures into even bigger creatures to help us close out the game, Doppelgang to make a sweeping number of copies of things, March of the Multitudes to create a huge swath of 1/1 Soldier tokens with lifelink, Vrestin, Menoptra Leader to create a huge threat while also making a ton of 1/1 Insect tokens with flying that get bigger when they attack, we have a plethora of options.

If we are unable to cast a massive X spell, then we also have access to The Third Doctor, which gets bigger for each noncreature artifact token you control and has trample so he can get a huge swing of damage if we have a massive number of Clue tokens.

Morska is a Commander that on the surface looks straightforward, but there is actually quite a bit of depth and options to look at. We can focus on getting Morska big by sacrificing Clues and drawing cards, using our Clues as value pieces other then drawing cards, or casting huge spells with our big mana options.

We can pivot into a few directions, which is always one of my favorite types of Commanders because playing one play style the entire time can get boring if you play a ton of games. If you have a Commander that can give you variety in play, then that is a deck that can last a lot longer before it gets boring.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
