Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Kamahl, Fist of Krosa!

Kamahl is a six mana 4/3 with for one green mana you turn a target land into a 1/1 creature until end of turn, and for 2 and three green creatures you control get +3/+3 and gain trample until end of turn.

Kamahl is very clear in his playstyle, and that is turning your lands into creatures and swinging with the Overrun effect.

There are several ways we can go about doing this, but the most important part is that we are going to be playing a higher than average land count, between 40-42 lands, most of which are going to be Forests.

The reason for this is that is that we are actually going to be running as few other creatures as possible and see if we can make a primarily land creature deck.

Most of the cards in our deck are going to be ways to get lands onto the battlefield.

Kodama’s Reach, Cultivate, Three Visits, Nature’s Lore are going to be the lynchpins of the deck in being ways to not only get lands into our hand, but also onto our battlefield.

We are also going to be playing a ton of ways to recur lands, like Conduit of Worlds, Aftermath Analyst, and Ramunap Excavator, which can allow us to get lands from our graveyard onto the battlefield if necessary.

One other powerful way to get lands from the graveyard onto the battlefield is Titania, Nature’s Force, which allows us to play Forests from the graveyard and whenever a Forest we control enters we make an Elemental, which mills us when it dies.

If we get stuck with a ton of lands in hand then we also have access to Wrenn and Seven, which can allow us to place a ton of lands onto the battlefield. We can also use Spelunking to make sure any lands that we get onto the battlefield enter untapped, as well as putting another land onto the battlefield.

Since most of our attacking force is going to be lands that become creatures, then any way we can buff them will be ideal.

Earth Surge is a funky card that is just an anthem for lands as long as they are creatures, which turns our 1/1 lands into 3/3 lands.

Blossoming Tortoise is also an option for us to use because not only does it give our land creatures a +1/+1 buff, but when it enters or attacks we mill and can put a land from the graveyard onto the battlefield tapped, adding to our massive land count.

Sylvan Advocate gives itself and our land creatures a +2/+2, as long as we control six or more lands, which for our deck shouldn’t be hard to do at all.

Finally we also have Embodiment of Insight, which has vigilance, gives our land creatures vigilance, and has the Landfall ability to turn a land we control into a 3/3 with haste until end of turn.

The way we win is to get most if not all of our lands onto the battlefield and have them become creatures to swing wide, and use Kamahl’s ability to Overrun us into a win.

The “easiest” way to get all of our lands onto the battlefield is Nissa, Who Shakes the World, whose passive allows our Forests to add an additional green mana and ultimates into making our lands indestructible and tutors out all the Forests in our deck onto the battlefield, untapped if we have Spelunking in play.

We then animate a good chunk of our lands and play Nissa, Ascended Animist which gives our creatures a +1/+1 for each Forest we control and trample to swing a win.

If we can’t get Ascended Animist onto the battlefield, then a good chunk of our lands with Kamahl’s effect should still be enough to win. If we need additional Overrun effects then we can also use Garruk Wildspeaker’s ultimate or if we want additional blockers then there is also Garruk, Primal Hunter’s ultimate to make a bunch of 6/6 Wurms.

Kamahl is straightforward in his strategy, and while we can also use his ability defensively and turn our opponents lands into creatures, his abilities serve better in a more aggressive strategy.

The benefit of most of our creatures being lands makes them harder for some removal spells to deal with, since there are plenty of removal spells that specify non land targets, which helps protect them in some instances, just as long as we pack in some protection for Kamahl as well.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
