Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Breya, Etherium Shaper!

Breya is a four mana 4/4 with whenever Breya enters you make two 1/1 Thopter tokens with flying and if you pay two mana and sacrifice two artifacts then you can either deal 3 damage to a player or Planeswalker, give a creature -4/-4 until end of turn or gain 5 life.

As we get into four color Commanders, one of the more interesting aspects about them is how sometimes they have so many abilities, but have a much more narrow play style.

Breya is a Commander that cares about having a large number of artifacts, while also having a decent amount of mana to use their ability, while also having a ton of extra abilities to make her flexible in how we use her.

So we need to generate a ton of artifacts, a ton of mana, and have a payoff for all of Breya’s abilities or by having payoffs for sacrificing your artifacts.

First thing we need to do is get a decent amount of artifacts onto the battlefield, as well as get a ton of mana to activate Breya’s ability.

Other than Treasure tokens, Clue tokens are the most prominent token type in our colors, which means something like Five Hundred Year Diary will make any Clue tokens we make into mana, including itself.

This means cards like Thraben Inspector and Novice Inspector can help us ramp when they investigate when they enter. Similarly there is also Moonsnare Prototype, which can tap an untapped artifact and itself to add a colorless mana.

Anything that makes artifact creature tokens is also in the conversation, especially if they help us ramp like Clay-Fired Bricks, which can help us get a basic Plains and we can craft it to get two Gnome artifact creature tokens and a +1/+1 anthem.

Along the same line, previous Daily Commander Urza, Chief Artificer can make a Construct at the end of each turn to help up the artifact count, while Urza, Lord High Artificer can make a Construct as well as turning all of our artifacts into mana rocks.

The next biggest thing we need are additional payoffs for sacrificing our artifacts to Breya’s ability.

Marionette Master is one such option because if we can turn the Fabricate to artifact creatures if we need more fodder, or ideally we turn the Fabricate into +1/+1 counters to turn every sacrificed artifact into an opponent losing 4 life.

We also have access to something like Mayhem Devil, which turns each sacrifice into some damage.

If we want to get a bit spicy, we can get an Arcbound Ravager as a secondary sacrifice outlet, sacrifice itself when we have no more artifacts to sacrifice onto a Walking Ballista or a Hangarback Walker and either have a way to deal a lot of additional damage or make more bodies for Breya.

There are even new cards we can consider, like the new Chandra, Spark Hunter which can ultimate into an emblem for whenever an artifact you control enters, you deal 3 damage to any target.

Our game plan is going to be one of slow attrition and value, so we need to make sure we make the most of it.

Since we should be making a ton of artifacts, something like Time Sieve should allow more opportunities to make the most of our turns, though as with any extra turns spell we need to have our turns as preplanned as possible.

If you want another slow way to win via artifact attrition, then Mechanized Production can get us to a win if we manage to make a ton of Clues or Treasures, with a secondary win condition in Revel in Riches if you have access to it, especially if we can trigger Breya’s -4/-4 ability to kill a bunch of creatures.

We also have access to a unique bounce spell in Desynchronization which bounces all nonland nonhistoric permanent to their owners hand, which keeps our artifacts safe. There is also Access Denied which is a mana intensive counter spell, but creates Thopters equal to the mana value of the spell it countered.

Breya is a Commander that excels in the long game, meaning that an artifact based control strategy will be the best way to make the most of her abilities. Breya is pretty narrow in what she can do, but that is fairly common in four color Commanders.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
