Hello and welcome to the extremely late Weekly Round-Up!
I do apologize for being late posting this, I had some things that delayed me from getting to be able to work on this.
It is not great that this is coming out later than I would like because I do have a special announcement at the end. Not another new blog, but something else that will affect the site for a short period of time.
Before that, a recap of what we did this last week and what’s coming up!
Daily Commander
We continued on with the secret theme, which for those who didn’t notice or figure out was that I was going through the color combinations! Subtle and was self serving, but a neat pattern to follow!
We finished looking at the two color pairs with Verazol, the Split Current who took a look into kicker and copying spells.
We started the three color groups with Urza, Chief Artificer who’s goal was to make a bunch of huge Constructs followed by Goro-Goro and Satoru who wanted to quickly get Dragon Spirits.
We decided to give everyone the feeling of old Magic by bringing mana burn to everyone with Yurlok of Scorch Thrash, with Rienne, Angel of Rebirth following right after to bring in a bunch of legendary creatures.
Building up our defenses and using that offensively was Doran, the Siege Tower who was then followed by Narset, Enlightened Exile to get a bunch of spells cast and deal a ton of damage.
We’ll be finishing up the three colors groups and be working on getting the four colors soon after, some of which we’ll need to be creative in how we get those working.
I would say Yurlok the Scorch Thrash was my favorite this week, mostly because I think Group Slug as a deck archetype is an underrated archetype that needs more cards to play with.
Casual Chat and Magic Project: Omega
We went back to talking about card games on this week’s Casual Chat as well as introduced a brand new blog to alternate with the Magic Super Cube, Magic Project: Omega.
Talking about the Casual Chat first, we talked about Rarities and their function for games, besides selling shiny cards to players. This was a neat return to talking about card games since I’ve been in a card designing mood.
That’s because this week was the debut of Magic Project: Omega, which is me designing a powerful set from the ground up in homage to Alpha, and the first series of cards was my take on the Boon Cycle.
That post got a decent amount of views on it, which is always a fun motivating factor and will be something I’ll continue to do.
However, this week will be Magic Super Cube talking about Antiquities, and that was a neat set to pick cards from. Adding a bunch of artifacts to the Cube will be an interesting thing to see.
Special Announcement Time
So now for the special announcement….
I’LL BE GOING TO JAPAN!
Yes, I’ll be leaving on February 24th and be gone for about three weeks on vacation to Japan. This has been a long time coming for me, and something I’ve been working towards for years.
So comes the big question: what’s going to happen to the blog in the meantime while I’m gone?
Well some blogs will continue, and some will be paused for a while until I come back. Here’s the lodown.
Daily Commander: Ongoing. I have managed to get into a decent rhythm in how I write Daily Commanders, so I should be able to get a bunch done in advance so I won’t worry about those being posted.
Casual Chat: Ongoing. Another blog that won’t have too many issues being written ahead, especially since there will be fewer to do than Daily Commander blogs.
Magic Super Cube and Magic Project: Omega: Paused. These two blogs on the other hand require more work and processing to get done. I could potentially get ahead on them, but that’s a lot more work than I think I may be able to handle. I would feel more comfortable pausing these until I come back. If I can, I’ll see if I can get them done, but otherwise they will be paused while I’m gone.
Weekly Round-Up: Paused. Surprisingly more work than you would think, but I don’t think people would be too upset about this being paused while I’m gone. I think these are my least popular/least read blogs, but I’ll still do them because they do serve a purpose.
In Conclusion
It’s great that I can finally say that I’ll be going to Japan, and letting everyone know what the plan is for the time I’ll be gone.
I should also say that if you want to follow me when I do go to Japan, I’ll be posting pictures on my Bluesky.
If you want to help me get to full time blogger status, then you can help by checking out the Ko-Fi link.
Until next time, (hopefully not as late), see ya!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
