Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Goro-Goro and Satoru!

Goro-Goro and Satoru is a three mana 3/4 that whenever one or more creatures you control that entered the battlefield deal combat damage to a player you make a 5/5 Dragon Spirit creature token with flying and for one and a red creatures you control gain haste until the end of turn.

This Commander pair wants you to deal damage with creatures that just enter the battlefield, which leads us into a couple of different directions but the major ones being creatures with haste or creatures with Ninjutsu.

I want to take building this Commander in a lateral direction and add an additional way to get the Dragon Spirit tokens.

While creatures with hast and Ninjutsu will be in our arsenal, the bulk of what we are going to be working with are ways of making tokens that are tapped and attacking.

Hanweir Garrison is an example of this where when it attacks we make two additional Human tokens that are tapped and attacking, which can help us get a bit of damage through an opponent who doesn’t have a large number of blockers.

Kari Zev, Skyship Raider does the same in making a Ragavan token that exiles itself when it leaves the battlefield, Goblin Traprunner adds a bit of randomness to it by having you flip coins to get up to three Goblin tokens, and Zara, Renegade Recruiter steals an opponent’s creature for a turn so we can get a benefit from that.

Ilharg, the Raze-Boar is also a powerful option to consider because it lets you cheat out a creature from your hand onto the battlefield for a combat, so any creature that gets an additional combat trigger will benefit from this.

Now we need to make sure we can guarantee damage getting through, and that is where making a bunch of small creatures comes in handy.

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive is our key in this endeavor because she allows your creatures with power or toughness one to not be blocked. Any tokens that our creatures makes can then slip in to get damage through so we can get bigger Dragon Spirits.

If we have a bigger creature that we want to get damage through then we have a tricky card like Teleport, which makes a creature we control unable to be blocked.

To get a more widespread effect for our creatures, there is Keeper of Keys, which keeps our creatures from being blocked if we are the monarch or if we control a good number of blue creatures then there is Deepchannel Mentor.

There aren’t many options that give a bunch of your creatures unblockable without a specific condition or via a Planeswalker effect, but there are plenty of ways to give it to a one or two creatures like Cloaks of Mists and Ghostform or lands like Rogue’s Passage or Escape Tunnel.

Now we need to close the game and while going full aggro is an option, our game plan should be generating us some high powered creature tokens.

Where Ancients Tread is a card that I have never seen before, and is perfect for this deck because our Dragon Spirits have 5 power, so we can consistently be dealing five damage to any target (thank you errata!).

Warstorm Surge is also on option here because it does the same effect but for all of your creatures, though it is a bit more expensive mana wise. If you have access to Terror of the Peaks then you can get that effect on a powerful creature with protection from targeted spells built in.

Speaking of strong enchantments, we can also use Berserkers’ Onslaught which gives our attacking creatures double strike, meaning any creature that enters and is able to deal damage makes us an additional Dragon Spirit token.

Goro-Goro and Satoru is a Commander that require a specific playstyle to get working, but can have a way to work around some of the hurdles that come from it. Ideally we are able to deal enough damage from our creatures entering the battlefield, but that is the ideal win condition.

If we can get to our turn without a board wipe then we can swing in with an swarm of Dragon Spirits to close out the game. As with all Commanders we discuss, I always look at the ideal scenario and hope for the best.

We often may not be able to get it to work, but we do what we can to make it work to the best of our abilities.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
