Hello and welcome to the Weekly Round-Up!

We are going to be going over the blogs this week and give an update to what’s going to happen soon!

Let’s get started!

Daily Commander

We started things off by taking a look at General Ferrous Rokiric who took multicolored spells and turned them into an army of Golems.

Raffine, Scheming Seer was next and that is where we played tricks with the cards in our hand and graveyard to our benefit.

Beregond of the Guard was a fairly straightforward build of Human typal while Keranos, God of Storms was less straightforward as we worked to spell sling and burn as often as possible.

Neyith of the Dire Hunt was a neat build to take a look at the oft overlooked fight mechanic, and we dove into a Partner set of Commanders with Rhoda, Geist Avenger and Timin, Youthful Geist in tapping down our opponents things.

We ended things off with a midrange monarch build with Queen Marchesa, long may she reign, and played with ways to generate value even when we didn’t have access to monarch.

A lot of these were done down to the wire because of real life, but I think that these ones came across well. I’m doing what I can to get more creative in how I build Commanders, but also looking to talk about more straightforward strategies to see how best to make them effective.

I would say my favorite one of this week’s batch of Commanders is a tie between General Ferrous Rokiric and Queen Marchesa.

Casual Chat and Magic Super Cube

We had the usual Casual Chat and a brand new biweekly blog in the Magic Super Cube.

This week’s Casual Chat was talking about the three consistent archetypes of card games in Aggro, Combo, and Control, what they are and how they play.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of how it turned out because I think that the topic would be better served if I went on a full on deep dive of each archetype, but that’s getting way too in the weeds for what the Casual Chat is meant for.

The next Casual Chat will be an off-topic one, and I have a few ideas in what it could be.

Then we had the Magic Super Cube, a project where every other week I am going to go through the history of Standard Magic sets (or sets that would have been in Standard had the format existed at the time) and picking cards to make a massive Cube.

I love Cube as a format and feel like doing this as a way to look at Magic’s history will be interesting and wacky as we work to build a somewhat comprehensible Cube.

We looked at Alpha/Beta/Unlimited all at once since they are basically the same set, and made some obvious and some not so obvious picks.

Upcoming and Socials

Bluesky: @jmcasualnerd.bsky.social

Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/jmcasual

This is probably the last time I will do a dedicated section on socials, and will probably just link it below the sign off.

Social media is hard for an introverted person, who knew?

I do think that posting them below the sign off of Casual Chat’s and Magic Super Cube will be better, because I don’t want to inundate people with me posting the socials for every Daily Commander would be great, but I may do it in the future.

Time will tell on that front.

I am also going to fold any upcoming aspect of the blogs within the relevant sections, makes

In Conclusion

We are back into the swing of things and I am ready to keep things moving. Soon enough I do have some big news to announce, but that will come at the beginning of the month and that is where things are going to be roughest for me.

Until then see you all next time!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
