Hello everyone!
It has been a little over a month since I started this whole thing and I have been doing better than I personally have expected in keeping up with the Daily Commander posts.
What has been interesting to me is seeing how this has slowly begun to progress. I’ve seen that some posts are in fact getting liked and while I haven’t replied to all of them, I have seen every comment and I appreciate all the likes and comments that I have received.
This has been new for me, as someone who has tried blogging before and failed because of a variety of reasons, having something stick for as long as this and (for all but one) posted at the ideal time for me has been emotionally rewarding.
There’s a lot to talk about, so if you want the TL;DR, it is at the bottom.
Social Talk
As for the title of the post, I have a Bluesky account now and would like to be using it more, mostly to get the word out and improve the site and the blogs themselves and give out random thoughts I have.
I do know that the website is a bit of an eyesore, my writing can be rambling, repetitive, and sometimes not cohesive, but of course I want to improve.
As my name and the site suggest, I am a person who enjoys being casual and not serious about what I write. I want to have a place where I can talk about what I enjoy and ramble on those things for an excessive word count.
I am a notorious windbag in real life and writing does not change that, if you have noticed reading any of the Daily Commander blogs.
I am also someone who has not done a lot of social media stuff outside the occasional comment on my personal Reddit or YouTube accounts.
I have been a lurker of many things and have been that way for years, and while it is something that I don’t mind doing, I do wish to change that.
I said so earlier, I want this website and my blogs to improve and while I do appreciate the people who do read, like, and comment on the blogs, I need to do more to get people to read and help me improve.
So I have made a Bluesky account where I will do what I can to at least be somewhat active. I will post the blogs, random thoughts, and good vibes on the account because that is what I am about.
More Blogs!
Another thing I want to do is expand the content on the website.
While there will still be Daily Commander blogs until I at least hit the year milestone, I don’t want to be stuck blogging about one topic the entire time.
I enjoy Magic, I really do, but since I will be talking about Magic every day for at least a year, I want to make sure my mind doesn’t go numb only talking about Magic.
So I want to branch about other things I like; other card games, movies, cartoons, anime, Vtubers, tabletop games, my upcoming trip to Japan, and a whole host of other things.
Along with the Daily Commander, every Friday shortly after, I will be posting another blog about something completely different.
It won’t have a set schedule or rotation, it’ll be about whatever I happen to feel like writing about that day, but I will try to at least change it up every week so I don’t repeat.
It’s a bit nerve wracking, but it will definitely be interesting at the very least.
Support
The last thing I wanted to talk about is the one thing that I am most nervous about.
I do like writing and I would love to do more of it, but I don’t have the means to do so.
Maintaining a website isn’t free and I don’t mind sticking to the way the website looks, slowly incrementing it as I learn more about the tools to improve it, but I want to do more.
Which is why I started a Ko-Fi page as a way for people to support me.
As someone who has been on the internet a long time, let me address some of the concerns that people will have.
Yes, I am starting a page where people can give me money after only a month and a half of posting where my writing is still an unknown quantity to a majority of people. I made it so people wouldn’t take the page or the name and figured I may as well use it rather than sit on it to do nothing with it.
No, I will not be paywalling any content or keeping anything behind a subscription. Times are tough and I know a majority of people do not have the means to give money. I wanted a way for people who do like my content and are able to support have a way to support me, if they can.
Yes, I chose Ko-Fi over Patreon or other donation/tip based websites. I chose it because it allows people to give a one time donation if they are feeling generous or a membership if they really like my content and want to continuously support me.
Yes, I will be opening up commissions for blog posts as well. There are going to be a lot of rules with it, such as what I will not write about, maximum word counts, how many commissions I will have open, and when the blogs will be up. Other factors will apply, but that will be done based on the commission.
There are many reasons to be nervous about this, and I don’t blame you because I am nervous about it. I have never done anything like this before so I am bound to make a lot of mistakes with it.
Again I want to stress, you do not need to pay me if you are unable to, there will not be exclusive content. If you want to support me, then you can like and share the blogs and I will be happy with that!
As of this posting there is a goal for me to commission an artist for original artwork, which is the first step into helping the website improve because it sets an image for what I want to do with the website, and I don’t want to mess with AI nonsense.
TL;DR
I have a Bluesky if you want to see and share the blogs and my random thoughts: https://bsky.app/profile/jmcasualnerd.bsky.social
I have a Ko-Fi page where you can support me if you like my content and are able to support or potentially want a commission: https://ko-fi.com/jmcasual
More variety of blogs will be coming.
Thank you for reading, see you soon!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
