Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!
Today we are going to be talking about The Ever-Changing ‘Dane!

The ‘Dane is a three mana 3/3 where if you pay a mana and sacrifice another creature, it becomes a copy of the sacrificed creature, except it has this ability.
Having a Commander that can be another creature can be useful, but what is more fun?
Sacrificing one of your good creatures in order to get a repeat of anther ability or stealing your opponent’s creatures, sacrificing them and getting a benefit from that?
In these colors, that is more than possible and most likely the intended way for this Commander to be played.

One of the more difficult things to consider when going for a theft type of effect is that they tend to be pretty expensive mana wise, so if we can find some of the cheaper versions of that effect then we should take advantage of those.
Come Back Wrong kills the creature first then brings it to our side of the field, of which your results will vary on that, but the fact that this one of the cheaper versions of a theft effect means that it is worth considering.
There is also Merieke Ri Berit, which can tap to steal a creature and allows you to keep control of that creature while Merieke is tapped, which we can definitely use at risk of it being targeted for removal.
Now this deck is aiming to be more of a control deck, both in the general archetype and the plan, so how else can we take advantage of that?

One of the other prevalent effects in white and blue is the ability to flicker and blink creatures, which means that effects like Agent of Treachery can prove to be exceedingly useful at taking our opponent’s things.
We also have access to Gonti, Lord of Luxury to steal our opponents cards from their decks directly, and this effect has been appearing more and more often as something that blue and black have access to.
There are a number of ways for us to steal our opponent’s things, but that leaves the question in how does a deck that always steals things win?
I mean we have access to a huge card pool when we take our opponent’s things, but how does that give us the victory beside an aggro plan?

What if we kept bringing back our opponent’s creatures? There are quite a few ways for us to either reanimate from an opponent’s graveyard or even mass reanimate from all graveyards, so that means we should be consistently destroying our opponent’s creatures.
Now we would be able to take advantage of enters the battlefield triggers which we wouldn’t be able to do if ‘Dane was on the field. If our opponent has some sort of very useful utility creature, then we can double up on that effect.
For extra flavor, we could play something like Clone Legion where we make a copy of all creatures an opponent controls, and then have ‘Dane make use of any powerful effects that we see fit.
‘Dane is a bit of an oddity in terms of how to build them, mostly because the deck relies on our opponents playing good creatures that we can steal, which in some cases means that we steal a mana dork until something better comes our way.
It’s an interesting deck idea, if incredibly difficult to pull off effectively.
Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
