Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!
Today we are going to be talking about, Psemilla, Meletian Post!

Psemilla is a 3 mana 1/1 that creates a 2/2 Nymph enchantment creature token when you cast your first enchantment spell each turn and at the beginning of each combat Psemilla gets +4/+4 and lifelink until the end of turn.
What makes Psemilla neat is that it procs on each combat and its an effect that lasts until the end of the turn, which means that Psemilla can be used defensively and offensively.
So while we can go the full on enchantments style that Psemilla wants to facilitate, why don’t we take a bit of a twist with it?
Let’s have a Secret Commander with this, and one that will synergize pretty well with Psemilla.

Light-Paws is a two mana 2/2 that whenever an Aura enters the battlefield under your control, if you cast it, you get another Aura with a different name to other Aura’s you control and mana value equal to or less than the one that was cast.
So why we only get the token creation benefit of Psemilla for the first Aura we cast, we get an additional benefit with Light-Paw’s ability and we get more enchantments onto the battlefield sooner which means that we can proc Psemilla’s second ability sooner.
With that in mind, we should also consider what sort of Auras do we run.

Ideally we want to run a combination of decently high mana value enchantments, while also getting a lot of value from having a lot of enchantments.
Mantle of the Ancients is the one that has a lot of mana value that does both of these things, so not only does it raise whatever this enchants, because either Psimilla or Light-Paws would benefit greatly from having this effect, but Light-Paws immediately gets benefit if this was cast.
There are a plethora of solid Auras in white that give huge boosts, flying, lifelink, vigilance and more so we can definitely turbo out a Voltron win from this while getting more tokens and a bigger Psimilla.
This does give us a solid enough win condition, but what is another way to guarantee that we win over our opponents?

White also happens to have a few Curses that we can also use to our benefit, and Curses also count as Aura’s.
Keep in mind, with Light-Paws ability if it does hit a Curse on its effect, it will not enter the battlefield because it would be considered an illegal target, and will thus enter the graveyard.
So, I would be pretty light on the Curses, but having two or three shouldn’t hurt too much as long as you have plenty of other Auras in your deck to make use of.
Of course having something like Overwhelming Splendor is great, but if you also were able to have Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite then you can have a massive board wipe without effecting your creatures at all.
In fact, it would make your creatures better, but again any variety of Elesh Norn can be a pricey, so something like Contagion Engine can work as a substitute if you want to clear at least one person’s creatures or have a way to blink it.
Psemilla is a Commander with a straightforward plan, which for me usually means that I want to look at the Commander in a different way.
Following to the mold of a Commander is great for new players who benefit from having an easy to follow plan, and we should encourage that.
I also believe that when a new player gets bored of a Commander, but doesn’t have a lot of time or money to sink into buying a whole new deck, they can tweak an on-rails Commander into something a little different.
Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!
Peace,
From, J.M. Casual
