Hello and welcome to Daily Commander!

Today we are going to be talking about Tatyova, Steward of Tides!

Tatyova is a 3 mana 3/3 that gives land creatures you control flying and whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control and you control seven or more lands, then a land you control becomes a 3/3 Elemental with haste that’s still a land.

A land based Commander that has the aggro element when you have a bunch of lands is a neat idea, especially since those lands will have flying and haste, meaning that they can attack immediately.

So we should capitalize on getting as many lands in play as possible, and there are a plethora of options in green and blue, and I think we should consider a potential secret Commander in this deck.

Bonny Pall is a six mana 6/5 with reach that creates a token with power and toughness equal to the number of lands you control, but the more relevant text is that whenever you attack, you draw a card and may put a land card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield.

Now, not only do you have the capability to do an insane amount of ramping in green, but Streets of New Capenna introduced the cycle of lands that sacrifice themselves, gain you a life, and put one of three basics onto the battlefield tapped.

I have a Bonny Pall Brawl deck that I play on Magic Arena and one of the best things that I do is have a couple of those lands either in hand or graveyard and just recycle them to take advantage of the double land triggers.

Should you get a large number of lands (which is very doable) then you should be getting a huge board of land creatures in play.

Not only that, but if you also have Landfall payoffs, then you should be in an even better position.

Something like Primeval Bounty can keep you so ahead in your life totals the more lands you play, especially when you play something like Doppelgang to make a huge number of copies of your lands, and if you are willing to track it then Scute Swarm for all of those tokens.

Land creatures also have the secret benefit of being resistant to a number of removal spells.

While not immune to all forms of targeted removal, there are plenty of popular removal spells that require a nonland target, of which the land creatures add that little more of a barrier to them.

The way we win is the old fashioned way of having a bunch of flying and hasty land creatures that get powered up by an Overrun sort of effect.

If you have the budget for it, then a Craterhoof Behemoth would be the most ideal way to swing over your opponents, since the power boost is much larger, even though an Overrun would do just fine.

Thankfully Tatyova is a cheap Commander mana value wise that you can afford to cast them a couple of times if they die, but even though you should be swarming in the number of lands as compared to your opponents, don’t get carried away.

Land based Commanders tend to have a slight edge over opponents because land destruction is frowned upon, but having your lands destroyed in a board wipe is bad for you but great for your opponents, so keep that in mind.

Thank you for reading, see you tomorrow for the next Daily Commander!

Peace,

From, J.M. Casual
