Hello and welcome to a spooky Daily Commander!
Today we are going to be taking a look at Tasha, the Witch Queen!

In the spirit of the season, I went with a Commander who’s whole emphasis is on getting treats from people around you!
Tasha is a five mana Planeswalker with four starting loyalty with a static ability that creates a 3/3 Demon when you cast a spell you don’t own, a +1 that draws you a card and exiles an instant or sorcery from you opponent’s graveyard with a page counter and a -3 that allows you to cast one of those spells for free.
This is also our first look at a Planeswalker Commander, which is an interesting building challenge.
Planeswalkers in Commander are often not looked in the best regard because the yare very fragile as compared to 1v1. Instead of dealing with one opponent, you’ll have to deal with three opponents who will likely start gunning for Tasha once she hits the field.
This is tricky, but not difficult to work with.
First, we need to make sure that Tasha isn’t the only way to steal our opponent’s cards.

There have been a plethora of cards that have been released relatively recently that help you steal your opponents cards.
Now Tasha does specifically state that you need to cast a spell you don’t own, so we’ll need to be looking for theft cards that allow you to cast.
Another benefit of modern theft cards is that they allow you to spend mana as though it were mana of any color in order to cast those cards, and many of them also allow you to play their lands as well, which means that you get even more value from them.
Of course, you’ll have to be careful because when you still other people’s cards, they will start to making you a priority target.
This means that your opponents will be looking at getting rid of Tasha, which allows you to hold off being the target of all your opponent’s attacks, at least for a little while.
In fact we can use that to our advantage.

Ashiok tends to have cards that cares about exiling your opponent’s cards or caring about exile in general, with Nightmare Muse being the most appropriate to the deck’s main strategy.
With a couple of Ashiok’s in play, we can actually have a mini Super Friends package, because what’s Trick or Treating without a few friends?
This means that we can take advantage of some other Planeswalkers like Narset, Parter of Veils to lean into more control aspects or Vraska, Betrayal’s Sting for removal and a potential win condition with poison counters.
Speaking of counters, we also have decent access to proliferation, and plenty of those also act as cheap cantrips to help not only our Planeswalkers in helping them survive, but also drawing us more cards.
However, I’m not feeling like the deck is spooky enough or really in season because it’s always good to make sure that everyone can get a treat.

Which is why for the first time for the blog, I am recommending you proxy a card because there is little chance that people have All Hallow’s Eve.
This is a quirky card that basically reanimates everyone’s things, but only after it loses scream counters at the beginning of your upkeep. It’s sort of a proto Suspend, but you pay full cost up front.
You can do this in the later game when people have graveyards full and be a nice player and just give every player their stuff back.
Now hopefully they didn’t read your Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears which has an ultimate that allows you to take one opponent’s creatures.
I mean someone had to get tricked right?
Thank you for reading this Halloween edition of Daily Commander, see you tomorrow for the next one.
Happy Halloween,
From J.M. Casual
